Prenatal Breastfeeding Consultation in Chattanooga, TN.

Sit down one-on-one with an IBCLC to talk through what to expect before the big day. Think of it as a breastfeeding class personalized just for you! Many families choose to include other caregivers during this session (especially partners!) so everyone is on the same page and supportive of your feeding goals.

Meeting with a lactation consultant before your baby arrives helps you feel educated, confident, and prepared-and ensures you know exactly who to reach out to once your baby is born.

Most insurance plans cover a prenatal lactation visit, and insurance benefits can be verified before delivery to create seamless postpartum care. During our visit, we’ll review your medical and surgical history, medications, breastfeeding goals, and any questions or concerns you may have.

We will discuss:

• Benefits of breastfeeding

• Skin-to-skin contact

• Milk supply norms

• Colostrum

• What to expect during the first several weeks of breastfeeding

• Newborn feeding frequency and feeding cues

• Latch and positioning

• Hand expression

• How to know if your baby is getting enough milk

• Alternative feeding methods you may encounter in the hospital if your baby has difficulty latching, including syringe, cup, spoon, and supplemental nursing system (SNS)

• What to expect during the first few days in the hospital and available resources

• Pumping, including a demonstration of your own breast pump
  (If you haven’t chosen a pump yet, I’ll provide guidance on selecting one)

• Engorgement

• Plugged ducts and mastitis

• When to reach out to a lactation consultant

• Bottles and pacifiers

• Your questions and concerns, plus a review of baby shower registry options
